Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026 · Applies to the Mera desktop app and heymera.com

Mera is a voice-first AI workspace for macOS. It is built to work with you, not watch you. A core product principle is that Mera always gathers the minimum amount of context needed to complete a task — and never more. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why, and how it moves.

Your data belongs to you — not us. We do not sell, trade, or transfer your personal data to any third party for commercial purposes, and we never use it to manipulate your behavior, target you with ads, or optimize for engagement over your interests. Ever.

What we collect

Google account info: Your email address and display name, obtained via Google OAuth when you sign in. Used only to identify your account within Mera.

Context you provide: When you ask Mera to help with something, it accesses only the context required for that specific task — such as the current browser page, a Gmail thread, a Google Doc, a Drive file, or your calendar. Nothing is accessed passively. Mera only reads what you explicitly ask it to use.

Voice input: When you speak to Mera, your audio is transcribed to text and used to understand your request. Audio is not stored after transcription.

Conversation context: Your recent conversation is held in session — including with the AI processing providers we use to generate responses — so Mera can handle follow-up requests naturally. It is not stored permanently and is not used to train any AI model. You can clear it at any time from within the app, which ends the session.

Subscription status: Whether your account has an active subscription. Payment processing is handled entirely by a PCI-compliant payment provider — we never see or store your card number or billing details.

What we never collect

Mera does not run in the background monitoring your activity. It does not track your browsing history, keystrokes, clipboard contents, or screen at any time without your explicit action. No data is captured until you initiate a conversation or request.

Mera accesses your Google Workspace data (Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar) only when you explicitly ask it to. It does not scan, index, or store your existing files or emails in bulk.

macOS app permissions

Mera requests the following macOS permissions. Here's exactly why each one is needed:

Accessibility: Allows Mera to interact with supported applications on your Mac, enabling it to carry out tasks within Chrome, Gmail, Google Docs, and other connected tools on your behalf.

Microphone: Enables natural voice conversations with Mera. Microphone access is only active while you are speaking to Mera.

Screen Recording: Allows Mera to understand what is currently visible on your screen when you ask questions like “What am I looking at?” or “Explain this page.” This permission is only used when you explicitly request it — Mera does not capture your screen passively.

How your data is used

When you ask Mera to complete a task — research a topic, summarize a page, draft an email, create a Google Doc, check your calendar — the relevant context (your voice input, the page you are viewing, the relevant file or thread) is sent to our backend and processed by our AI provider to generate a response or produce an output.

Content is used solely to fulfill your request. It is not stored on our servers beyond the request lifecycle and is not used to train any AI model.

Mera always prepares work for your review. In its current form, it does not take final actions — like sending emails or publishing documents — on your behalf without your confirmation.

Google API Limited Use disclosure

Mera's use of information received from Google APIs — including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, and Google Calendar — adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Specifically: Google API data is used only to provide and improve Mera's features directly requested by you. We do not use it for advertising, we do not transfer it to third parties except as necessary to provide the service, and we do not allow humans to read your Google data unless you have given explicit permission or it is required by law.

Mera only accesses Google Workspace data when you explicitly instruct it to interact with a specific file, thread, or calendar entry. It does not access your existing data without instruction.

Service providers

To deliver Mera's features, we work with a small set of carefully vetted infrastructure providers covering authentication, payment processing, AI processing, and voice transcription. All providers are bound by data processing agreements that prohibit them from using your data for any purpose other than delivering their service to us.

Data shared with any provider is scoped strictly to what is needed for that specific function. None of our providers receive data in bulk, passively, or for advertising purposes. We evaluate providers against strict criteria including SOC 2 compliance or equivalent, encryption in transit and at rest, and contractual prohibitions on data resale or secondary use.

Data retention

Conversation history: Held in session only — including with the AI providers we use to generate responses — for as long as needed to handle your current conversation. Not retained after your session ends.

Account data: Your email and name are retained while your account is active. Deleted within 7 days of an account deletion request.

Request content: Context sent to our backend during a task is not stored after the response is returned.

Data security

All data transmitted between the Mera app, our backend, and third-party APIs is encrypted in transit via HTTPS/TLS. We do not store sensitive user content on our servers.

Your controls

  • End your active conversation at any time from within the Mera app, clearing its session context
  • Revoke Google account access via your Google Account settings at any time
  • Revoke macOS permissions (Accessibility, Microphone, Screen Recording) via System Settings at any time
  • Request full account deletion by emailing us — we will complete it within 7 days

Children's privacy

Mera is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will notify you by email before they take effect. The current version is always at heymera.com/privacy.
